Katsushika Hokusai is a Japanese painter who calls himself "the Madman of Drawing". He is said to have made over 30,000 drawings during his long life. This print is part of the series 36 Views of Mount Fuji that the painter Hokusai created in 1830, at the age of 70. He uses Prussian Blue, which is a new color in Japan in 1830. He shows the life of fishermen facing a very large wave. Mount Fuji is calm and snowy in the distance.
