Gustav Klimt was an Austrian Art Nouveau painter. He painted many women in lavish interiors, adorned with gold and symbolic props. From 1908, he also started doing landscapes, using a square format. This painting is a collotype of a work which is now gone. It was destroyed, alongside 13 other works by Klimt, by the Nazis in Chateau d'Immendorf in 1945.
