Hand-cut art wooden jigsaw puzzle of circa 900 pieces - Made in France and environmentally friendly.
Housed at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, this view, painted around 1670 by Jan van der Heyden, depicts the old lock in Haarlem, a vital structure for navigation on the city’s canals. Although renowned for the precision of his urban views, the artist did not, in fact, depict a real location: the elegant houses visible on the left were actually located along a different canal.
As a puzzle, the assembly progresses in separate sections: the brick façades, the trees in the center of the image, and the stone quays provide solid reference points. The reflections in the water and the clouds in the vast sky then require closer observation of the nuances of light, so characteristic of 17th-century Dutch painting.
